The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority completed a $70 million dollar renovation and expansion program for it's McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) in the fall of 2000. The project included construction of two new concourses, gates, ticket counters, elevators and escalators, administrative offices, passenger loading bridges, restrooms, gift shops and the first Ruby Tuesday airport restaurant in the nation. The addition of an 115 foot mountain stream added a natural element to a beautiful new facility that will serve Knoxville and East Tennessee well into the next century. McGhee Tyson Airport has several major airlines serving many non-stop destinations throughout the eastern United States. With more than 120 arrivals and departures each day and more than 4,000 seats available, McGhee Tyson Airport is one of the most convenient and accessible regional airports in the nation. Shoffner's contract for this project was in excess of $6 million dollars. The work was performed for the construction management group of Rentenbach / Bovis / Russell, in conjunction with the Knoxville Public Building Authority.
Scope of Work Performed by Shoffner Renovation and expansion totaling 230,000 square feet Furnished and Installed the Following: 2 - 500 ton centrifugal water chillers 2 - 1,500 gpm cooling towers 2 - Heating Water Boilers 10 - water circulating pumps 19 - Indoor air handling units 265 - Variable air volume terminal boxes 50 - Exhaust and Supply fans 489,000 pounds of sheetmetal ductwork 1,940 Pieces of Air Distribution devices 300 - Plumbing Fixtures 19,450 feet of Piping Glycol Storage tanks, pumping and piping system for plane de-icing Automated Direct Digital Control System
