Millwright Services

The millwright trade has been around since the 17th century, however it was a quite different trade in the early days. Early millwrights were master craftsmen who completely designed and constructed mills.

Early millwrights were accustomed to working with wood. In the latter part of the 19th century, iron and steel became the building material of choice. The American industrial picture changed and the millwright trade adapted and changed along     with it.

Millwrights of the past were trained in arithmetic and geometry, his knowledge and abilities seemed unlimited. He could calculate the velocities, strength and power of machines, he could draw in plan and section view, and he could construct buildings, conduits, or watercourses, in all forms and under all conditions required in his professional practice..... "In short, the millwright of past centuries performed the work of a civil engineer, designing and carrying out most of the mechanical operation in the United States."
